10 firms closed by Irish food safety authority
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has reportedly closed down 10 food businesses in the last month over fears that they could be endangering public health.
The FSAI shut down the following firms over failed inspections, lack of food safety training, standards and practices and repeated failures to make improvements:
- German Cakes and Snacks restaurant in Cork
- Amerta Chinese Restaurant in County Dublin
- Jimmy’s Take Away in Laois
- At the Office Catering in Dublin
- McGovern’s Victuallers in Leitrum
- A grocers in Meath
- Boody’s Chipper in Wexford
- Imperial Chinese Restaurant in Cork
- Gojinka Restaurant in County Dublin
- Asian European Food Store in Cork
Commenting on the decision to shut down the businesses was Professor Alan Reilly, the chief executive of the FSAI, who said:
“It is up to each individual food business to review their food safety procedures and ensure consumer health and safety is at the top of their agenda,”
“Every enforcement order is one too many and each order lowers consumer confidence in not just the business involved, but the industry as a whole.
“Every business has a responsibility to have a food safety management plan in place to lessen any potential risks to their customers.”
