90% of UK school students want first aid training
According to a new survey carried out by the British Red Cross, more than 90 per cent of UK secondary school students would like to take part in first aid training in school.
The survey, which was carried out among secondary school students in England and Wales, revealed that 91% would like to learn first aid training during school time. The poll also revealed that:
- 94% of students would feel more confident helping friends or family members experiencing a medical emergency if they had been trained in first aid
- 67% said that they thought first aid training could help them get a job
- 66% currently think that they would not be confident helping someone in need of first aid
The findings of the survey come just as the British Red Cross is launching its Pupil Citizen Lifesaver (PCL) campaign to urge the government to include first aid education in school curriculums.
The head of first aid for the British Red Cross, Joe Mulligan, said:
“First aid education must be more accessible in the classroom to build a generation of better citizens who possess life-saving skills.”
“We urge parents and teachers alike to sign up to the Red Cross campaign to ensure that this essential life skill is included in the schools curriculums”
