Conducting manual handling tasks safely with the right training

If you work in a job that requires you to undertake manual handling of any kind, you need to ensure that you get the right training before you start work. Fail to do so, and you could risk injury to yourself and other people.
Similarly, if you own a company which employs people for manual handling work, it is your responsibility to get all workers up to speed with the right health and safety training.
Manual handling training courses are available at two levels, both approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (you can find more information about CIEH at CIEH). These are:
CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling a half day course in which participants learn about the risks and hazards associated with manual handling
CIEH Level 2 Award in Manual Handling Principles and Practice a full day course in which learners are instructed in manual handling risks and hazards and importantly, how to apply them in every day work tasks
These courses teach participants how to undertake manual handling courses such as pulling, lifting, carrying and pushing objects safely. The overall aim of these health and safety courses is to reduce the number of injuries that occur in the workplace every year.
