A care home in the Wiltshire town of Westbury has been named an infection risk by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection.CQC inspectors visited the Greengates care home, on Redlands Lane, last January. They found problems with maintenance, cleanliness and hygiene, as well as with staffing and care training. Additional issues included:
Insufficient support for those with dementia, to help them engage with others
Residents needs not being met
Poor procedures for maintaining personal records
When inspected in December 2009, the Greengates home was rated as adequate. Since then, owners Diana and Siam Yeoh admit they have faced difficulties finding staff with the right level of care training. Mrs Yeoh said:
We have also had problems recruiting, it is quite a difficult time in the care industry. We have started recruiting and are improving staff training to ensure care plans are properly recorded.
We want to reassure our residents and their families that the report never criticised the standard of care at the home, we have an extremely committed and caring staff team.
The CQC will undertake a follow-up inspection in around three months time to ensure that the necessary improvements have been made at Greengates.
