Do you know what to do if your colleague falls ill?
First aid skills can be useful and potentially lifesaving in whatever situation you find yourself in, whether it’s at work, on the train or at a public event.
Within the workplace, your employer has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are protected from harm and are healthy, safe and comfortable at all times. Part of this responsibility is appointing someone to be responsible for first aid and sending them on the appropriate first aid training course.
However, it can be a good idea for everyone in the workplace to be trained in first aid, not just one person. For example, what happens if someone falls ill at work and your first aider is not in that day? What if the person sitting next to you has a heart attack or suffers from another equally serious condition, and your first aider has stepped out of the room? In this situation, you need to know what to do to help your colleague.
First aid can save lives, and the skills you learn during a first aid training course can be used in many other situations outside of the work environment. Isn’t it worth spending a day learning these life-saving skills?
