If you have never taken a first aid course before, it is understandable that you will have some questions. Let’s try to answer some of them here (continued in part 2 of this guide):

Can I learn first aid online?

You can read about first aid online and find a limited amount of information, but the only real way to learn about first aid is to do it. This is why first aid training courses are so useful, because they allow you to put theory into practice and try out life-saving techniques yourself. Simply reading about first aid online isn’t enough to help you save lives in the real world.

Can I get first aid training through work?

Every workplace should have at least one first aider. If your workplace doesn’t have enough first aiders, you could volunteer to take on the role yourself. Your employee will arrange and pay for your first aid training. If you already have a first aider, you could still suggest to your boss that all employees undergo basic first aid at work training, to make the workplace safer overall.
