First Aid training provides vital skills
First aid training can equip people with much more than knowing how to put someone in the recovery position and administer CPR; a first aid at work course covers first aid priorities, managing incidents, basic life support, examination of a casualty, unconsciousness, control of bleeding, fractures, burns and scalds, common illnesses, heart attacks, eye injuries, dressings, recording and reporting, regulations and first aid kits.
All of this information can prove invaluable in the event of an accident or illness, as one man’s experience in the Isle of Wight recently demonstrated. The man was driving his children to a sports event when he came across a twelve year old boy who had just been hit by a car.
Luckily, the man had completed a first aid training course only days before, and so was able to check his vital signs and ensure he wasn’t moved while waiting for the emergency services. His training allowed him to evaluate the condition of the both the boy and the driver of the car, who seemed to be suffering from shock. He was also able to provide paramedics with the information they needed to treat the injured party.
Would you know how to react if you came across such an incident? If not, it may be time to brush up on your first aid skills and knowledge!
