A housing officer from Derby has been presented with an award from East Midlands Ambulance Service after she used her first aid training and skills to save the life of a local pensioner.

Derby Homes officer Jenna Jeffrey had just arrived for work at the Sussex Circus housing office in Chaddesden when she witnessed the collapse of 77-year-old John Lambert, who suffered cardiac arrest and was in danger of losing his life.

Thanks to her first aid training and quick thinking, Ms Jeffrey was able to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to Mr Lambert, sustaining his life until ambulance crews arrived. Mr Lambert was taken to hospital, where he is recovering well.

Jenna Jeffrey, meanwhile, has been presented with a Good Samaritan award from East Midlands Ambulance Service for her heroic actions. She has also been praised by the Derby Telegraph, which is calling for more people to undergo first aid training in the area as part of its Save a Life campaign.

Kerrie Webster, the community paramedic who arrived on the scene to attend to Mr Lambert, also praised Ms Jeffrey’s actions. She said:

“Seconds count if someone is having a cardiac arrest and Jenna’s actions saved Mr Lambert’s life.
“The quality of her CPR was excellent. It meant I was able to treat Mr Lambert using a defibrillator.”
