Anyone visiting a food outlet in the Huntingdonshire region can be reassured that the food they are buying is prepared in hygienic and safe conditions, as workers from across the area have now undergone food hygiene training.
A total of 23 food workers, from a range of businesses in the Huntingdonshire region, went on the food safety course, and they all received a Level 2 qualification at the end of it. The kinds of topics covered in a typical food hygiene course include:
- Identifying food safety hazards
- Handling food safely
- Proper cooking and reheating of food
- Principles of safe food storage
- Refrigeration and chilling of food
- Temperature control
- Food premises and equipment
- Food hygiene legislation in the UK
Commenting on the training, which has been paid for by a European funding scheme, was Councillor Tom Sanderson, who said on behalf of Huntingdonshire District Council:
“Food hygiene training is extremely important for anyone who handles food.
“As well as being a legal requirement, training will have a direct impact on the food hygiene rating given to businesses following each routine food inspection carried out by our environmental health officers.”
