Food safety training offered to Welsh school children

The Food Standards Agency in Wales is offering school children the opportunity to study for an industry-recognised qualification in food hygiene and safety. The aim is to provide children on fourteen and above the life skills necessary for safe and healthy cooking, as well as providing them with a valuable additional qualification.
The food safety training will be delivered online, and students will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course. Initial feedback from schools seems to be very positive, with teachers finding students responding enthusiastically to the opportunity. Some students have even been offered weekend employment on the strength of their qualification.
Food safety training is essential for anyone working with food, at any level. Even waiting staff, kitchen porters and those working with relatively low-risk food, benefit greatly from learning more about food hygiene and developing a greater awareness of food safety standards.
A Level One CIEH course in food safety covers food hygiene, hazards and responsibilities as well as educating students in personal hygiene, contamination and cleaning. These are the essential areas that anyone working with food should be aware of.
