Paignton Zoo owners praised for food safety standards
The charity which runs Paignton Zoo along with a number of other enterprises has been praised by official bodies for excellent food hygiene standards at its premises.
The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which is based in Devon, received a five-star rating from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for catering facilities and food hygiene standards in both Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts in Torquay.
Paignton Zoo’s Amanda Smallshaw commented on the award, saying:
“We are delighted to be among Torbay’s five-star scoring businesses,”
“The staff at both Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts have worked very hard to achieve this standard. Paignton Zoo is the largest organisation that Torbay Council has to audit, with 14 kiosks, refreshment huts and takeaway outlets as well as the Island Restaurant.”
The Food Standards Agency is awarding premises with star ratings as part of the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, an initiative which gives customers information about food hygiene standards at each food-serving venue. Awards are handed out after officials have visited each facility and have analysed everything from structural requirements and management systems to safety procedures, cleaning practices and food hygiene training.
