River Cottage Park Farm damaged by fire
Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s farm has fallen victim to an unexplained fire that has destroyed a single-stored building converted into a commercial kitchen. This means that cookery courses held in the former barn will no longer be able to take place, and demonstrated the disruptive and destructive effect of fire on businesses.
While other areas of the business remain open, the rapid spread of the fire shows how vulnerable business properties can be. The incident required the presence of five fire appliances, a compressed air foam system appliance, an incident support unit and a support fire appliance in order to get the blaze under control.
While the cause of this fire is not yet known, it should remind all business owners of the necessity of taking appropriate preventative measures: fire safety training, fire awareness and risk assessments can all help to prevent these incidents from occurring.
Control measures can also be helpful in certain circumstances, with sprinkler systems able to prevent the spread of fire once it has broken out.
Luckily, this fire broke out at night and no people or animals were harmed or injured.
