Sawbridgeworth hospital wins food safety award

A hospital in the Hertfordshire town of Sawbridgeworth has been honoured with a top-level food hygiene award for the excellent standards of its kitchens.

The Rivers Hospital and Neurological Centres, a private establishment, was awarded a five-star food hygiene certificate from East Hertfordshire District Council after its environmental health inspectors visited its on-site kitchens. After a thorough inspection, they found excellent standards in cleanliness, structural conditions, confidence in management, and food safety training for staff.

As five stars are the very maximum it is possible to be awarded, this is a very prestigious award and one that has only been granted to a small percentage of food-serving establishments in Hertfordshire. For the Rivers Hospital and Neurological Centres, however, it is the third year running the full five-star accolade has been granted.

Commenting on this impressive achievement, the support services manager for the High Wych Road hospital, Hilary Mathews, said:

“We are delighted to have once again been awarded five stars.
“It is a super achievement by our Head Chef, Marc Witherden, and his team, and reflects the emphasis our hospital puts on hygiene in all areas”.
