Do you have what it takes to be a fire marshal?
A fire marshal, or fire warden, is a person who has been appointed by a company or an organisation to take responsibility for fire safety. The person who takes on this job will need to be:
- Organised to be able to effectively plan fire safety measures
- Responsible – someone who can be trusted to take fire safety seriously
- Observant – so as to spot fire hazards and risks
- Conscientious – as even the smallest details count with fire safety
- Authoritative and influential – so that others can follow your lead and make the workplace safer
In addition to these essential qualities, you will need to undergo a fire warden training course before you are ready to perform your duties properly.
This type of training course will help you learn all you need to know about fire safety legislation and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, as well as about how fire starts, what fire prevention measures can be taken and the importance of fire alarms and fire drills. It will also teach you the essential elements of a fire risk assessment, which is useful whether you or a fire safety consultant undertakes the task.
