A care home in West Cumbria has been identified as falling short of the required quality standards, and new admissions to the home have been suspended as a result.
The Riverside Court Care Home in Maryport, which is run by Four Seasons Health Care, was inspected by council officials and was found to be failing at least 17 different care criteria. There were issues with dispensing and stocking medication, as well as care training and supervision for staff, quality monitoring and meeting the nutritional and welfare needs of residents.
A temporary manager has been brought in to address these issues and to improve standards, whilst Cumbria County Council, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the NHS keep a close eye on the situation.
No new residents will be admitted to the home until all issues have been resolved and the welfare of residents can be guaranteed.
A CQC spokesperson said:

“While this home has demonstrated slow improvement in some essential standards of care since our earlier inspection in June, some aspects of care have not improved and there are still areas of non-compliance.
“We are working closely with the local authority and PCT which are also monitoring the home’s performance.
“We plan to return imminently for further unannounced checks.”
