Where to start with food safety training
If you are new to the food service or catering industry, or you have never undergone proper training, the right place to start is with a level 1 food safety course.
The CIEH Level 1 award in food safety is designed to provide you with an introduction to the main issues and requirements relating to food safety and hygiene within certain industries.
The skills you learn and the knowledge you gain in this sort, of course, will be applicable to the catering, retail and manufacturing industries. Whether you are part of a front-of-house team, a food preparation worker or a kitchen porter, this introductory course is absolutely vital for your progression in the industry.
What will I learn?
On a typical CIEH Level 1 food safety course (the CIEH stands for the accrediting body, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health), you will learn about:
- Personal hygiene
- Cleaning
- Avoiding contamination
- General food safety, relating to hygiene, responsibilities and hazards
Will the course take a lot of time to complete?
There is no reason why you can’t complete a CIEH Level 1 award in food safety as part of a half-day course, finished with a multiple choice examination.
