Are equality and diversity different things?
Equality is about ensuring everybody has an equal opportunity regardless of characteristics. Diversity is about understanding the differences between individuals; and placing a positive value on those differences. Companies and individuals must adhere to the equality act.
What is the equality act?
The equality act (2010) provides a legal framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equal opportunity for all.
Who is covered by the equality act?
The equality act covers all workers within an organisation. This includes full-time employees, part-time workers, agency workers, applicants, and former employees. It ensures that people are protected from discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, sex, gender reassignment, disability, religion and belief, age, and sexual orientation.
