A first aid refresher course is a short, focused training session that is designed to refresh or reinforce the skills a learner gained during their original first aid session, ensuring first aiders remain confident and competent, especially in light of HSE updates and ever-evolving best practices.

This first aid refresher course is designed for individuals who have already completed either a three-day First Aid at Work or a one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course. It helps keep essential skills sharp, ensuring that first aiders remain confident when examining casualties and applying appropriate action or treatment based on updated guidelines and legislation.

While not legally mandatory, the HSE strongly recommends annual first aid refresher training during any 3-year certification period. This helps first-aiders maintain confidence and refresh their skills.

This course aims to ensure learners remain compliant with changing HSE guidelines alongside providing the skills, knowledge and confidence to use learnings in a real emergency situation. The First Aid Annual Refresher certificate is valid for 12 months upon completion of the annual refresher course. You will need to re-enrol to maintain your certification.

The course covers key life-saving skills such as CPR, using a defibrillator (AED), handling unconscious casualties and managing bleeding or choking incidents. It also includes updates on best practices and any changes to HSE guidance.
