What is covered in a manual handling training course? – The Training Hub
Manual handling training is extremely important for anyone who is required to carry out lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects as part of their job. Unless you are properly trained in safe techniques and practices, you could end up injuring yourself or even other people.
There are two parts to a CIEH Level 2 Award in Manual Handling Principles and Practice training course. The first is a half-day programme for beginners wanting to learn the basic principles, and it will teach participants how to identify and understand the risks associated with manual handling.

The second part of the training, another half-day session, goes further than simply giving recommendations to manage manual handling risks. It covers more practical aspects relating to the practice of safe manual handling, featuring such topics as:
- Manual handling techniques, for situations such as team handling or lifting loads from low or high levels
- How to carry out risk assessments for manual handling work, and why this is so important
- Where to find guidance on the legal requirements of manual handling principles and practice
Once you have completed the second part of this health and safety course, you will have acquired the full CIEH Level 2 qualification.
